An underwater film was what greeted visitors at the grand opening of a new day care centre in Rochester.
The Kathleen Onslow Day Care Centre opened on Friday 29th June and visitors not only donned 3D glasses to watch the film, but reminisced over archive newspapers from the Second World War whilst listening to big bands on the wireless.
Representatives from Medway Council also came along to see the new and innovative centre, before enjoying a freshly-prepared lunch and cupcakes.
Holly Westlake, the Performance and Compliance Officer at Medway Council, said:
“I love the idea that the Kathleen Onslow Day Care Centre is offering something a bit different. It really is giving a unique kind of day care to the elderly people of Medway”
The Kathleen Onslow Day Care Centre is pulling out all the stops to help their visitors to become technology literate. As well as enjoying the sensory-enhanced experience of watching 3D TV, day care visitors can surf the Internet with easy to use touch-screen technology and keep fit playing golf on the Nintendo Wii. Staff are also helping elderly visitors to video-call loved ones all around the world via the Internet.
After seeing the visitors’ joy of interacting with technologies first-hand, Holly added:
“I see a really positive future for the Kathleen Onslow Day Care Centre”.
Family-run care provider Scott Care Ltd, was thrilled to see their unique vision for day care come to life at the grand opening. Scott Care opened the centre in memory of Kathleen Onslow, Auntie to Managing Director Julie Scott, and the team is confident they have created a warm and welcoming environment that Kathleen would have been proud of.
Service Manager Michele Lippett, said:
“We do not want to dictate to our visitors how best to spend their time, but instead we give them a choice. We want them to look forward to attending and allow them to do things that will make them happy.”
The grand opening was well-attended. There seems little chance that Scott Care’s pioneering approach to day care will go unnoticed. Scott Care has broken the mould for day care and will remain dedicated to offering their visitors the attention, technology and choices they deserve.
